OCaml Implemented with Monads?

I recall reading a rumour on a Haskell mailing list or something like
that to the effect that the OCaml development team was considering
using monads to implement IO in the future. This struck me as being
rather extraordinary at the time; unfortunately, now that I have a
need to substantiate it, Google seems unable to find the original
post. Can anyone provide evidence that such an unorthodox scheme were
ever considered (even in passing)?

I am a member of the O'Caml development team, and I had never heard
that rumour before reading your post.

Even without asking the other members of the team, I'm pretty sure
there is no such evidence.
