Last notice of position available
Competition will officially close January 1, 1996
The Department of Mathematical Sciences

has a tenure-track position beginning August 1996 or (at earliest) January
1996, at rank of Assistant Professor or higher to teach Computing Science
(and some Mathematics.) The successful applicant will be required to teach in
both lower level and upper level computing science courses (including
service courses) and at least some lower level Mathematics courses. The
Department of Mathematical Sciences is undergraduate and includes
Mathematics, Computing, and Physics.

Teaching experience is very much preferred and strong academic and
personal references are required. Preference will be given to a person
with expertise in one or more of: operating systems, software engineering,
AI, and logic programming, but versatility is more important than the
specific speciality. Familiarity with languages such as ISO Modula-2 and
C/C++ (along with possibly several others) is important.

In the hardware/OS realm, applicants should of course be familiar with
the typical DOS/Windows and UNIX boxes, but MacOS experience is also a
MUST, as all our first year CMPT courses for majors are taught on Macs
using MPW and the p1 ISO Modula-2 compiler.

Minimum academic qualification: Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Computing
Science, Informatics, or MACS. A credible research program is also
necessary. Although junior faculty applications are welcome, master
teachers and/or senior faculty and/or senior developers/software engineers
are especially invited to apply. In any event, the successful applicant
will be a self-starter on the cutting edge of the industry and education.
(S)he must be capable of taking leadership in developing new courses,
while at the same time being a team player anxious to build up the
department and the university as a whole.

Our department has a microcomputer lab for departmental and service
courses with a mixture of Macs and Windows machines. Present faculty have
interests in languages, software engineering, data structures, and
numerical analysis. Our language for initial instruction is Modula-2, but
beyond the first course or two, the language varies according to the
course. We are in the process of expanding our course offerings so that
we may offer a degree in computing Science in addition to the MACS degree
presently available.

Trinity Western University is a small (<2000 FTE) Christian liberal arts
university, affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of Canada. It is
a full member of the A.U.C.C. Candidates must be able to support the
University's Statement of Faith, and model its Community Standards
agreement. They must be able to integrate faith and discipline in a
seamless manner, and teach this integration to students.

The university is located in the lower mainland of British Columbia,
Canada and there are many community amenities available, but the cost of
living is high by Canadian standards. More information on TWU and on the
department is available via www.twu.ca.

Preference is given to Canadian citizens, but others are also invited
to apply.
