The book mentioned is the original presentation of Objective-C by Brad Cox.
The language syntax used in that early book is slightly different than that
which is currently used.  A new version of the book has been published, which
is much improved:

Object-Oriented Programming: An Evolutionary Approach
	Brad J. Cox and Andrew J. Novobilski
	Addison-Wesley, 1991.
	ISBN 0-201-54834-8

I would be careful about reading Next manuals unless you are actually going
to be programming on a Next machine.  The Next version of the language is
non-standard, and won't necessarily be compatible with compilers produced
for other platforms by Stepstone and others.
