What is best VCL to use with MS Access?

I am using Delphi 3 and want to be able to easily and speedily access huge MS Access97 tables. I see ODBC Express, Titan and the upgraded BDE advertised as being able to access Access97 with Delphi. Does anyone out there have experience with any or all of these products to give a recommendation? I have seen ODBC Express take ten minutes to open a (unindexed) quarter-million record Access table. That is unacceptable. Why did it have to access every record just to open the table? Is there a cache that could be set? Is Titan faster? Need help and any suggestions very welcome. Don

Hi Don, To make life a little more complicated: There are at least two other popular ways to connect to Access databases, being : 1. Opus DirectAccess at http://www.opus.ch 2. DAOConnect, at http://www.xeaglex.com I'm still evaluating the first one, which is a tedious job for me, 'cos i don't know Access that well. I can say already that the people from Opus have done a very good job documen- ting the stuff! You get a very good idea about how the Jet- engine works, and what it's 'quirks' and limitations are. Anyway, let us know how you're doing... PS: Crossposts to borland-newsgroups won't go through due to company-newsserver limitations. -- R. Don, You don't want to have a quarter of a million records in an Access database, never. Access is the problem, not the interface to it. Try another database. Paul Don F. Don, Access wasn't designed as a heavy duty database - anything over 50 000 records will result in a major deterioration in performance - you might try using Foxpro tables, which will support upwards of 5 mill records without too much trouble - larger than that, you should probably be looking at Oracle or somesuch HTH, Andre Joubert On Mon, 11 May 1998 22:26:23 -0400, "Don F.
