Hi folks.

Are there any of you out there who would like to work on something
really cool, but seem to have run out of ideas? If so, this might be the
opportunity for you.

Last year I wrote a set of protocols that worked on top of winsock,
allowing Delphi programs to transfer data structures consisting of
classes. They also perform connection management, and they make
designing and writing winsock apps ridiculously easy. They are now
thoroughly tested, well documented, and a good example of nice solid
decent software engineering.

I started full time employment (having graduated from University) last
September, and I have just a few more improvements that I need to
include in these protocols before they can be unleashed on the wide
world. However, progress has been frustratingly slow.

Most of these improvements are quite closely tied up with the internal
structure, and I plan to do those myself. However, there is one very
important task which requires relatively little knowledge of the
internals of the protocols:

I'd like someone to develop an IDL (Interface definition language), and
a parser that automatically generates marshalling and unmarshalling
routines for the datastructures that are sent. There aren't very many
constraints, and all the design requirements can be stated on a couple
of sheets of A4 paper. Once those requirements are satisfied, the
developer could implement whatever cool fancy things they wanted.
Hopefully, anyone who accepted this offer would also write sufficiently
good documentation on their project, so that improvements and amendments
could be made to their code several years later. Full credit would be
given to the author for their contributions, and if the later sale of
this software raised any money, the proceeds would be split 50-50.

Any takers?

Martin Harvey.
