I am a newcomer to Delphi and have been using Delphi 7 for about a month now. I am having massive problems with the help system, sadly it looks like a mix of Windows 3.1 help files that don't seem to be integrated. I am simulating the C# SendKeys function (using code I found on Borland's site) which in turn uses a function 'keybd_event'. Although auto completion works for this function, i.e. Delphi recognises it, I can't get any help on it at all. I have even run grep over the Borland directory to try and find some reference to it without success (except its definition is in one of the .pas files). I will do a Google search now but is the help as bad as it seems? I haven't tried to make any changes to it but it seems to me that it consistently fails to find the subject when seeking help. I also use MS.net and the help system in that is superb, hopefully Borland will pull their socks up for the next release of Delphi. -- Jeff Gaines Damerham Hampshire UK jeff@jgaines.co.uk

That is a windows API function. the Help at the IDE is mostly for Delphi language and libraries try looking in the window help.., look in Content etc.. The problem with the help system is, I've been told, that the total number of searchable keywords exceeds the limits of a Windows Help system. That's why the WinAPI index hasn't been inculded in Delphi help system. But - there is a way: - Type the keyword in delphi editor (e.g. after the bottom 'end.') - and hit F1...voil ! What I allways do is place a shortcut to Win32.hlp file on my desktop. It's needed for searching the WinAPI help , because even if the F1 tric mentiaoned above works, you still cant search WinAPI from the help system. The help page is from WinAPI, but you're in Delphi help system.... -- Bjrge Sther bjorge@hahaha_itte.no

There also incidentally sems to be a problem with F1 on component help ( try highlighting a component and hit F1 ) . This file is the d7vcl.hlp file, but it appears to be truncated in the application install expansion, and again appears to be a fault. The file is available if you download the trial architect version and plug in the file thus found ( 26 Mb ) , but the application download is 170 odd Mb and cant be done with slow download rates. I am looking for a prog which will help me get over my ISP's 2 hr download cut off right now, but it would be handy if somebody who has it (d7vcl.hlp) put it on Kazaa for instance. Looking for a program to download things and it doesn't care about interruptions? You must be blind, they're everywhere. I reccomend "Gozilla", or for the simpler but with less features (and more spyware) approach, you can use "Download Accellerator Plus". Thanks Nicholas, ...perhaps I should have said 'will be looking for .. ', now I dont have to bother as you have sorted me out on that. Ta On the d7vcl.hlp issue, Maynards got a point, but it does seem a long alternative route to kickstart the component help in D7 Alan info@MaxiRAD.com "Nicholas Sherlock" <n_sherlock@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:b1vm9f$bsc$1@lust.ihug.co.nz... > Looking for a program to download things and it doesn't care about > interruptions? Over the years I have used Delphi 1, 2, 3, 4, and now 7. With each
edition Borland has redesigned the help system, and each time I have
found it confusing adjusting to the new version. In Delphi 1 there
was a button to click to take you from Delphi help to Windows API
help. Later they integrated the two together, so that you could move
from one to the other without realising it. This may sound simpler,
but the fact that you don't realise you are in a totally different
help file organised differently can cause confusion, particularly for
a beginner. Then Windows API help became separated, and to anyone
without a detailed knowledge of the system it was not obvious that it
existed at all. And so on . . .
Borland could do with beta testing new editions of their help system
with (a) people used to their previous version, & (b) newcomers to
Delphi, and make sure that the system is clear enough to understand
before publishing it.

i think you must of missed the bus once too many times. once you start talking about putting files that belong to commercail packages on kazaa and related locations as far as i see it you deserve more.
