Tracing into D3 SYSTEM unit?

I keep getting an access error at location 9. CPU window; no call stack.
Sure sounds like the RTL, eh? So I have the linker build a map file.
(Strangely, "publics" and "detailed" crash with a "close error" on a
wierdly named file.) Sure enough, location 9 is in the System unit.

So, I add source\rtl\sys to my search path and do a build. I get two
undeclared identifier errors in SysInit - _StartLib and _StartExe. I
don't see any external declarations or {$L} pragmas, but I figure the
problem is probably that these are declared in one of the .asm files.
So, I twiddle my DOS PATH, install TASM32, and run the makefile in
source\rtl\sys.

I *still* get the same two Undeclared Identifier errors. Surely someone
has run into this already - what's the drill?

I have had a problem with the _StartLib and _StartExe before, and I couldn't
run an application from Delphi. The problem was solved by shutting delphi
down, but I'm sure that that is not the case here.

By any chance, do you know where I can get Tasm32?

I got mine from, I think, Programmers' Supershop, when I got D2.

Actually, I got the package for TD32, and I haven't used TASM until
today - I haven't had much call for asm lately, and BASM's fine for what
I do need. Fwiw, the CPU window does most of what I bought TD32 for ...
and now D3 lets you trace into dll's, which was just about all the rest.

Copy the RTL/SYS files to another dir, run TASM and remove sysinit.pas. You'll be stepping through
System and SysUtils, but not SysInit.
Or, might work to run TASM and point search path to the DCUs, and Debug Source Path to the RTL
source. Be aware that stepping through system is rather annoying if you use interfaces or long
strings....

Erik.
