I have a general question about a program I have yet to start. A client of our company has a stack of reports (pretyped) into which they simply write in the details of meetings, etc. The client wants all of these forms on the computer, I'm thinking probably each one will open in an MDI child window. The question is: how do I create these reports in a window and allow the average user to type in the information needed without being able to change the rest of the type on the page and then print the report? Also, I would like to allow them to create new reports which will also open in an MDI child window. Am I dreaming, or is there a good way of doing this? This is basically 95% of the program if I could just figure out an easy way to handle it. Please offer any suggestions you can. Thanks in advance, Brian Richmond lxbrian@lincolnnet.net

Hir Brian I am developing a program with texts with places where you can enter text. And I do not think there is any easy solution. I made a program that scans a document and when it encounters some Flag it outputs the text start some action and continues scaning. if the flag is a inputFlag then it will not output the string but instead generate an tedit control... It is not easy, you have to know how to create components at runtime but it is possible -- I did it. I used my own decendent of tedit that will grow as the text gets bigger and Panels so that the text right of the editbox will scroll. this is needed for lines containing more that one input. I therefor know that is is possible, but there is no easy way as far as I know. Please let me know if you get any bright idears of an easy way to solve this proble. You may want to check out a dedicated forms management package such as JetForm (http://www.jetform.com/) or Symantec's FormFlow (www.symantec.com). Ed Vander Hoek, ToolSmith Software, www.toolsmith.bc.ca Providing intelligent date components for flexible data entry

Easy is a relativ term. How do you want to do the drawing? A scanner requires a lot of disk space and memory in the printer, and it is very slow in use. If it was my task, I would source code all creations of MDIChildren and maintain them in a list and store all properties in a file. Further I would store all pictures as windows metafiles. Metafiles contains the direct windows drawing procedures and needs no translation. They are very fast and requires just a small amount of memory. Get a metafile designer to draw all pictures. The TImage can show metafiles. If you wonder which properties to set in a standard component, just add a new form, drop a component on it and view (right click the mouse) the form as text, copy the lines you need into the clipboard, return to edit mode and paste them. Correct the lines. Brian Richmond skrev i meldingen <35C8A077.7F6E2834@lincolnnet.net>... >I have a general question about a program I have yet to start.
