Delphi / Pascal code to read and write TAR archives

Dear All,

A similar question appeared in this newsgroup almost 2 years ago:

>Does anyone know where I can get source code/freeware/shareware
utility
>to extract files from Unix TAR format for Delphi 5? I would prefer
native
>Delphi code or VCL, but a DLL will do. Thanks in advance.

Marco van de Voort of stack.nl then referred to SWAG, the Sourceware
Archival Group (SWAG) from gdsoft.com; I downloaded all the SWAG
archives and went through the Archives category by means of the SWAG
reader. Unfortunately, nothing about TAR Archives. Who can help me?
TIA

Kind regards,
Dobedani,
The Netherlands

Instead of waiting 2 years, maybe you should learn to google. :o)

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%2Bdelphi+%2Btar+%2Breading

The 4th link is www.torry.net/compressstd.htm

Which contains a link for the free source of
Common Archiver Kit v.1.0.37
http://www.torry.net/compressstd.htm#6337

Please note it requires some parts of the Common Archiver Kit Install
Pack, also listed (just below it infact).

Hope this helps.

Dodgy.

Hello Dodgy,

Thanks for the reply, which was not formulated in really kind language
but at least helpful. I was actually looking for Native Delphi /
Pascal code. The Common Archiver Kit requires external DLL's. The one
I am going to use is:
LibTar v. 2.0.2 to be found at
http://www.torry.net/vcl/compress/std/libtar.zip

Kind regards,
Dobedani

Well it wasn't really that unkind, it was sarcastic (it had a smiley
on the end!)... It's just that I've never used a tar component and I
found just the thing you wanted with 1 google search. Google really
can be very useful for things, and it's certainly quicker than waiting
for a newsgroup reply.
