Hi,

I'm writing on behalf of my father a programmer in Borland Pascal 7. I
recently bought him a new PentiumII 300 (Intel). Now he cant use the
programs he's written which use the CRT unit. He gets a Runtime error
200 (division by zero). Please tell me how he can fix this.

Are there programs?
Is there a new unit available which will do the trick?
Is there any code he can use to get around this problem?

Please email me at info@countrynet.nl

Thanks,

M.J.

Some old programm cannot work on the very fast computers because it check
processor speed by big circle of NOP operators, and on the fastest processor
apears error-division by zero. Unit CRT works normaly on the any kind of
processors (all my program works), but if you use some unstandard graphic
drivers you shoult be have some problem too. Check your program to that
circle and correct (you have no to use this circles).

I've forgotten some else. You can check this case: if you program has the
circle which check processor perfomance try run some windows application as
background process which strong use processor (I apply any filter to very
big picture, for example 5000x5000 in true color, in the Adobe Photoshop -
it works 1-2 minutes) and in the same time run your application - it does
work. This way is very simple and don't need special knowledges.

QHAH. Most Dutchmen know that.

Read before Write!
Pascal Start-Up Error 200 on fast PCs when using the Crt unit is a VFAQ!

Read the many earlier postings in the comp.lang.pascal.borland (Frank H,
Roger D, ...) and borland.public.turbopascal newsgroups (you can use
DejaNews), including the comp.lang.pascal.borland mini-FAQ, and Prof.
Salmi's FAQ ftp://garbo.uwasa.fi/pc/link/tsfaqp.zip #124, and/or Ing.
Franz Glaser's http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/2926/tp.html and my
http://www.merlyn.demon.co.uk/ clpb-faq.txt pas-time.htm pas-linx.htm
Another fix is to avoid all use of the Crt unit, or, if accurate delay is
not needed, to compile with TP5 or TP6.

STOP!
This what you wrote here is not fully true. A patch is available @ my
homepage:
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Bay/9553/tpbug.htm
There's also a description of the bug.
BTW, this is a VFAQ.

Bye,
Stefan
