Take a look at the following modules available from CPAN: Net::Ping, Filesys::SmbClient & Filesys::SmbClientParser If you're using Win32, also take a look at the Win32::* modules available from http://www.roth.net/perl/ and for db-stuff: DBI and DBD::whatever_kind_of_db_you_want_to_use. If you want a working script, pay up, otherwise, read the modules' documentation and at least give it a try yourself.
