One simple solution would be to regenerate the file using an EPS
workstation type rather than PS.

VAX GKS can produce EPS; however they will not have a preview bitmap.

The relevant GKS workstation types are:

61	Postscript
62	Colour Postscript
65	EPS
66	Colour EPS

Chapter 3 of the PHIGS and GKS device specifics manual goes into some
detail on using Postscript workstation types with GKS.

Of course, this assumes you still have access to the original source
program.

If not, I am sure many others on the net will have explained how to
hack PS to EPS
