I hope this has not been discussed recently, but I have just discovered this news group... Here is my problem: we have an Apple LaserWriter IIg (with 5 megs of memory) attached through a serial port to a Sun workstation on which the Transcript package is installed. I can print to this printer just fine, but there is one problem: the maximum size of the printing area is smaller than on some other printers we have and often times any attempt to print something close to the page borders results in a "cropping" effect. To demonstrate that it's the printer actually defining a smaller printing area, I wrote this little piece of code: %! Postscript file /strbuffer 256 string def % show printing area in gray clippath 0.9 setgray fill 0 setgray % restore filling gray to black clippath % get clipping path again pathbbox % lower left x, lower left y, upper right x, upper right y % show actual coordinates of printing area /Courier-Bold findfont 15 scalefont setfont strbuffer cvs 100 500 moveto (Upper right y: ) show show strbuffer cvs 100 550 moveto (Upper right x: ) show show strbuffer cvs 100 600 moveto (Lower left y: ) show show strbuffer cvs 100 650 moveto (Lower left x: ) show show showpage Sure enough on the laserwriter IIg it produces a considerably smaller shaded rectangle than on say a laserwriter II. The question I have is therefore this: is it possible to define a larger printing area? The only operator I could find to possibly help me is "framedevice" but it requires the definition of a procedure to execute when showpage is called and I have no idea what to put in there. Also, on page 88 of the printer manual it says something about the imageable area being dependent on the amount of installed memory: does it really mean that 5 megs of memory are not enough?? thanks a lot in advance for your help. -- Leonardo C.
