I recently requested info on a package that's capable of scaling PS.
My humble need was to get two A4's scaled down side by side as A5's
on a single sheet. But there's a lot of other things you can do
with the two following packages:

psutils by Angus Duggan, available on a friendly ftp site near you
(was posted to comp.sources.unix some time ago). I found mine from
nic.funet.fi, but surely it can be found on the other side of Atlantic,
too.

It has scaling and page shuffling (like for booklets). Didn't work first
with files generated with Windows PS driver, but this is all MS's fault
as they try to be clever in the way of emitting showpages (or maybe they
are just conserving space... do I smell DOS here :-). A simple
sed script will make things going well again: just see how EJ function
is defined and replace all subsequent EJ's with

gsave showpage grestore

(the same thing as the EJ is doing).
Apparently some other systems have similar problems, as there are a
couple of perl scripts included in the psutils package.

I ran a 200 page test material through this one, and it worked fine.
Someone claimed that this does not work well with Ghostscript, but I don't
need it (at least yet) neither can I confirm this.

Another scaling package is dmm-nup by Don Markuson, available via ftp
from tiger1.prime.com (129.122.3.47) as /pub/mac/dmm-nup.shar, or directly
from author, dmm@tiger1.prime.com. I didn't test it as I got psutils working
for me, but it has Ghostscript related comments in the headers, so it might
cure the problems that someone claimed to have with psutils.

Someone also said that Next machines have this kind of stuff built-in.
There were also several other replies suggesting various places to look
for additional information.

All in all, this network is simply a wonderful source of information.

Thanks to all who replied.
