I don't know which PS cartridge you are running, but the PS Level 2
cartridge from HP allows switching back and forth from the control panel.
It only takes a few seconds to do the switch.

In addition, this version of the cartridge can be controlled by software.
If you are running a MS-DOS PC there are TSR/drivers supplied to work in
that environment.  If you are working in a UNIX environment, the specs for
the switching codes are supplied so you could write a filter to put this
code at the head of your print stream.

A while back HP had a great upgrade offer for PS cartridge owners if that
applies to you.
