You are a victim of the paper curl on the first pass. I too have the problem
with the Apple LaserWriter IINT. The cure is to run it through backwards.
(Tail first) OK, so you can't do it normally. So, to get the curl fixed,
run the paper through the printer upside-down, backwards, printing blank
pages. This can be done by telling to printer to print x number of blank
pages. Then you can print the other side of the paper, since the bad curl
will have been straightened out.

With groff output, I can print the output upside down, removing the blank pass.
