Does this query relate to just monochrome or colour printers or both?
I know of a few Level 2 machines, having recently been considering purchasing
one myself.  Dataproducts brought out the first Level 2 machine - the LZR 960,
which is reputed to have a very fast RIP, and is based on a 9ppm Sharp engine.
Just recently they have introduced an A3 version of this machine (called the
LZR 1560, I think), with similar specs.
     The machine I was most interested in was the NEC Silentwriter S62P.  This
has a 6ppm (Canon?) engine, and uses similar cartridges to the Laserjet III.
It also includes PCL 5 (Dataproducts has only PCL 4), and NEC's version of
Resolution Enhancement Technology.
     As another correspondent has already noted, there is now a Level 2
cartridge for the Laserjet III series.  I don't know how this measures in terms
of speed compared with a machine with built-in PostScript, but since the III
starts with an 8ppm engine I would expect it to be acceptable.
     I recently posted about Level II vs Level I vs PCL + PS machines, and
a member of staff at QMS (a big PCL-compatible and PS machine maker) wrote
back saying their company did not believe Level 2 to be a stable, fully error-
free system, and they would not be developing a machine until satisfied all
the glitches had been ironed out.  Make of that what you will.

     With respect to colour (one of the things for which Level 2 has been
especially structured), I only know of the Tektronix Phaser range of
machines.  I'm sure there are others, I just haven't seen them.
