Greetings from the void,

We have a Gateway 2000 (386) running MS-DOS 5.0, and MSKERMIT 3.11. It's
hooked up to a HP LaserJet III with a PostScript cartridge. It's also
attatched to a DECserver.

On the VAX, we have WordPerfect 5.1. In WP, I've set up the printer as HP
LaserJet III PostScript, and specified passthrough printing. With the LaserJet
II, this deal seemed to work fine. However, with the LaserJet III/Postscript
combo, it doesn't.

It ALMOST works. MSKERMIT turns on the printer, (PRN appears on the status
bar), then I see a stream of characters run across the bottom line of the
screen and the HP's ready light flashes as it displays "Processing Data". All
of this is similar to the behavior that it exhibited with the LaserJet II.
WP finishes sending, but nothing ever comes out of the printer, nor does WP
return me to the document. An MSKERMIT Reset-Terminal (Alt-equals) will return
me to the document screen, but the printer continues to flash that it's
processing data.

I suspected (and still suspect) some terminal setting in either MSKERMIT, the
DECserver or the DCL SET TERM command. I called WP VAX support, and they said
they had no problems. They even faxed me their DCL SHOW TERM, DECserver SHOW
PORT, and MSKERMIT STATUS screens. When I set mine to be 100% identical, I was
actually in WORSE shape: Entering WordPerfect threw me into Tektronics
emulation and then proceeded to make a mess of the screen.

Here's what I believe might be the relevant settings:

From MSKERMIT.INI:
SET BAUD 19200 SET PARITY NONE
SET FLOW-CONTROL XON/XOFF SET HANDSHAKE NONE
SET LOCAL-ECHO OFF SET TIMER OFF
SET DUPLEX FULL SET DISPLAY 8-BIT
SET TERMINAL VT320 SET TERMINAL BYTE 8
SET TERMINAL TABS AT 1:8 SET TERMINAL COLOR 0,10,32,40
SET TERMINAL KEYCLICK ON SET TERMINAL BELL AUDIBLE
SET TERMINAL GRAPHICS VGA SET TERMINAL KEYPAD APPLICATION

From LOGIN.COM:
    $ SET TERM/INQUIRE/NOTAB/FORM/APPLIC/INSERT/TT/HOST/DIALUP/BRDC/LINE

From DECserver:
    DEFINE PORT TYPE ANSI
    DEFINE PORT BREAK LOCAL
    DEFINE PORT LOCAL ^\

(I tried removing the LOCAL switch (^\), but that didn't change anything.)

Any clues? Thanx.
