You're not going to get enough information over email - you really
need to get one of the many PS books out there.
You couldn't email the C language, now could you?
PostScript is a Real Programming Language, it just happens to have a great
deal of optimized graphics operators. (see {Holy War})
The first edition of the Red book is 300 pages.
PostScript Language Reference Manual, Addison Westly Pub, ISBN 0-201-10174-2
Version 2 of the same book is 750 pages.
PostScript Language Reference Manual, Second Edition (ISBN 0-201-18127-4)
The tutorial (a must for first-timers) is 250 fun-filled pages.
PostScript Language Tutorial and Cookbook, ISBN 0-201-10189-0
Glenn Reid's book Thinking In PostScript is about programming display
and device drivers in PS. I don't have the ISBN # here, but I can get it.
Not for the queasy. Heavy stuff. Glenn helped write PostScript and the
Cookbook (and the display drivers for the NeXT).
Around 400 pages of mind-bending code.
If you don't want to buy these (but you should), a good tech library should
have them.
