Hi everyone. This is Jon Monsarrat from MIT and Brown University.

Kenneth Porter has passed the ownership of the FAQ for
comp.lang.postscript over to me. A completely new version is in the works.

Along with this went a large mail folder. I don't know how many people
Ken got back to about their mail. I think I have sent mail to everyone
except people who sent more than 2K of information (which will take
more time to process their mail before responding to them).

Over the next week (at most two) I will be reformatting the FAQ,
adding a lot of information, most of it written by other people.

Want to help? That would be great. How to do so is included below.

Please direct your FAQ questions and answers to jgm@cs.brown.edu.

Thanks.

This is a list of questions that need answering.

Answers should be followed through to completeness and in tutorial format.
Many of these questions we have good answers for (see the FAQ) but they
are not complete, and thus need more writing.

I'm a PostScript hacker and I know a lot about many of these, but
don't have time to write all the answers. For many I do not know the
details. So writing a long tutorial version for the FAQ would be
*great*, but writing just the information for me to format would be
just fine and greatly appreciated.

--------------------------------------
For programs the FAQ needs to know
  - What is the name of the program?
  - Who wrote it, and where can I get it?
  - What ftp sites can I get it from?
  - How much does it cost? Is it free?
  - What architectures does it run on?
  - What does it claim to do, and does it do it well? Is it worth using?
  - Who is the author and what's the email address?

--------------------------------------
I'm looking for information about *all* PostScript interpreters.
I especially need information on the following:

PixelScript, Post, GoScript, PSView, Ultrascript, pageview,
QMS UltraScript-PC, Freedom of the Press, Hijack-PS.

For books the FAQ needs to know
  - What is the name of the book?
  - Who wrote it? Does the author give an email address?
  - Who is the publisher, and what is the copyright date?
  - Does the publisher list an address and phone number or fax number?
  - What is the ISBN number of the book?
  - What does it claim to do, and does it do it well? Is it worth using?

The books listed in the FAQ are the only ones I know about.

--------------------------------------

Where is comp.lang.postscript archived? I want to look through the
last 2 or 3 years for information.

--------------------------------------

I also need answers to the following FAQ questions.

1. What is Open Look? Open Windows? NeWS? And how does PostScript run on them?

2. How can I print saved Mac PS jobs on NeXTs and other systems?

3. Where are ftp sites that have PostScript freeware?

4. What vendors sell fonts for PostScript printers?
Where are the free ftp sites for them?

5. What is Level 2 PostScript and how many printers run it?
How is it different from Level 1? What interpreters support it, and
how can I learn it? Should I learn it?

6. Are there any free encapsulated PS converters?

7. What questions should the FAQ have?
