X-NeWS Path flattening?

I am writing a few PostScript routines to create textures and other graphic
effects. Amongst others, I've written a procedure which draws a random crack
and I wanted to get it to draw cracks in the corners of the current clipping
path to create a "cracked stone" effect with text. However, when I use pathforall
the path seems to be flattened to loads of points so that it attempts do draw
a crack at just about every point along the outline. This happens with straight
lines (!) as well as curves.
Does anyone know anything about X-NeWS? Does it automatically flatten paths to
short segments with clipping paths? (setflat makes no difference btw)

Thanks for the help, anybody.

Julian
