Some time ago, I made a query for what devices there are that are
capable of handling PostScript level II. I got more replies than
I expected, and people has wanted a summary from me, so here it is.
Aside from the replies below, I also got to know that Texas has
printers with PS II capability, and that there also is a card
available from them for their older printers.

The Tektronix Phaser II PXi and PXe and Phaser III PXi colour printers
uses the Adobe Level II interpreter. They are great printers, in my
un-biased opinion.

"Are there any printers capable of handling PostScript Level II
on the market today? If so, which ones are they?"

Monochrome: the Apple LaserWriter IIg. I have one here. I believe
that the IIf is also level-2 compliant, but I haven't checked.

Color: my company's products:

Tektronix Phaser II PXi (thermal wax transfer to slick paper)
Tektronix Phaser III Pxi (color phase-change ink to plain paper)

(I have heard that we have the only level-2 color printers, but this
could change any day.)

Yes, several:
	Apple LaserWriter IIg
	Data Products LZR-960
	NEC SilentWriter 95 (just out)
	Tektronix Phaser III something-or-other (color)
(there may be others; these are the ones I know of off the top of my head)

They all seem to have just a few little bugs left--mostly nothing serious,
but you might trip over a problem here and there.

There's a whole bunch listed in the advertisements in MacWorld and
MacUser... I think there's a few PS-level 2 colour printers involved
in the Colour Printer tests they did for April. Grab a magazine oriented
towards whatever platform you're using, and take a look through the ads!
The articles might be interesting, too... ;-)

Sure. My NEC SilentWriter Model 95 is both PS Level II and HP PCL5.

Nice printer. *VERY* inexpensive, too. ($1400US)

Only ones I know so far are

	Apple LaserWriter IIf and IIg
          Data Products LZR 960
Textronix Phaser III -- this is a color printer -- very nice indeed.
	NEC -- some model I can't recall

I have a Apple LAserWriter IIg -- quite nice. There were bugs in the
PROMS
so they can't deal with serial communications port properly. There's
supposed to
be an upgrade.

I forgot. NeXT Step 3.0, due out this summer, will support full level II,
which means the NeXT printer will print Level II stuff. NeXT will also
have a

color printer for around $4000

Apple, Tek and HP all supply official Adobe level 2. HP sell
a cartridge for Laserjets, the others sell printers. There are
no high-res (>= 600dpi) official Adobe products yet, nor a level 2
Display PostSCript, yet.

Next week, Chelgraph will be launching Level 2 compatible printers
with resolutions ranging from 600x600, 600x1200, 900x1800, 2000x2000,
using my PSL2 clone, called Jaws. We think this is the first Level 2
clone and teh first high-res Level 2.

Jaws is also available to OEMS as a software RIP for a number of
environments, including UNIX workstations. We will shortly be
announcing support for Sparcprinters for it. We'd also love to
find someone who wants a Display PostScript clone:-).

Forgive the plug, but you did ask!
