uploading bitmap info from printer

I'd like to get some bitmap versions of a Type-1 font of my own design. I know
that I need a PostScript interpreter to interpret the font outlines to produce
bitmaps. Does anybody know if it is possible to use the interpreter in the
printer to produce the bitmap for a particular letter (or any graphics for that
matter) and *upload* back to the computer? Anyone ever hear of such a thing?

Thanks for any help!
