Has anyone taken a Group 3 fax file, the type that comes in from fax modems and wrapped it into a PS file by calling the CCITTFaxDecode filter new in PS level 2? Presently we use a fax2ps filter that blows up a 40k file to nearly 1 meg (bitmap to hex, etc.). This causes a lot of unneccesary net traffic and overall slowness. If I read this filter correctly, I should be able to write a shell script or c program to wrap this small fax file into a PS job and call the CCITTFaxDecode filter to "blow it up" at the rip, increasing speed and reducing net traffic. I understand that this is specific to PS level 2 printers but if anyone has done this before I'd appreciate the help. I will be happy to post the resulting filter to the net if there is enough interest.
