Is it possible under MS-DOS to print to a PostScript compatible
printer more-or-less universally and transparently?
My limited exposure to PCs indicates that applications, into which an
appropriate printer driver has been installed, can successfully print
on a PS device. However, if I attempt to print from the OS or an application
which produces text output for a printer I have to select a different
emulation mode, i.e. HP-CL.
I am aware that some LocalTalk adapters come with software to intercept text
data to an assigned printer port and convert it into PostScript data
before sending it through the LocalTalk adapter to a selected printer.
But what if I have the printer directly available on one of the parallel
ports? Is there software which will perform a function similar to that
described above but produce the output on a specified parallel port?
I apologize if I've missed something obvious, but to date I have been
changing the printer emulation manually alternately "printing" a pair
of files which toggle the emulation mode back and forth.
Thanks,
Brooks
