This is standard behaviour of the 4.3 spooler. It is easier that way, because
the log file can grow large and over flow your discs.

The file is removed, so the contents is gone.

Another way to do this is to link a file using ln(1) to the error file after it
gets created. Then, when the error file get zapped, you still can get to its
contents. The added benefit is that you don't need to change anything at all.
