Smoothing out Postscript grays

I saw a small piece of postscript code which changed a screen operator somehow
to smooth out a continuous gray effect on lower dpi laserwriters here on
the net. How can I change the resolution so that I can get bigger dots, but
more continuous chnages in gray scales?

Thanks in Advance,
