Need help with Pageview stacking pages

Hi,

I have been having problems with PostScript generated by Word Perfect and other
programs when trying to view them using Pageview. Pageview seems to be superimposing
the pages rather than recognizing page breaks. Does anyone know of a fix for this
on the PS level?

Thanks,

Jim

Pageview, along with many other programs to process PostScript, assume
that the input file is a "Conforming PostScript Document." This means
that special comment lines are placed in the document at certain
locations to tell these programs what is going on.

The comment to indicate that a new page is starting is:
	%%Page: lnum pnum
where lnum is the logical page number, and pnum is the physical page
number. Pageview needs these comments to know where one page ends and
another page begins. (This is because it is easy - make that common -
for a file to redefine the command to skip to a new page.)

What you have to do is:

	1) write or call Word Perfect and complain about their
		brain-dead software :^)

	2) figure out where the page breaks are, and insert the
above comments (the page numbers can be omitted for pageview)
		%%Page:

If you do #1 first, you will be better able to remain civil to the folks
at Word Perfect than if you do #2 before you call them. :-(

Obviously Word Perfect is not generating correct DSC PostScript. Yes, there
has been a problem with OW 2.0 Pageview. I think OW 3.0 is a little better.
But, Pageview requires the %%Page: DSC keyword to stop. There are a few other
things that can trip it up.

If you want to send a copy of one of your problem files to brown@wi.extrel.com,
I'll try them out on both OW 2.0 and OW 3.0 Pageview. I'll attempt to find the
cure as well, i.e., what needs to be edited in the PostScript file to make it
work.

Oops! Everyone forgot to suggest that Jonathan include this in the
excellent FAQ! :-)
PageView requires at least the %%Page DSC (Document Structuring Conventions)
comments. I conjecture that Word Perfect omits these (presumably for
compatibility with Microsoft Word :-).

You could:
1) Call WP tech support and try to convince them how irresponsible
   they are.
2) Look for a filter that inserts %%Page DSC in WP .ps files.

I hope I've at least started you in the right direction.
