METAFONT, TEX and DVIPS users,

I believe that I have successfully installed TeX3.14 (including metafont
and all the generic packages) on a sun4c sparcII. I have also installed
dvips but unfortunately for me it cannot find the appropriate *pk or
make it with the MakeTeXPK script. I have run the debugger but all seems
well (apart from not being able to find pk fonts) and there is no error
such as MakeTeXPK cannot be found. I have tried all the obvious fixes
including those mentioned in all of the manuals (dvips, mf makefiles etc)
but no luck. It seems to be a problem with dvips not invoking the MakeTeXPK 
script but I have checked the dvips makefile and everything looks
appropriate.

The only thing I am worried about is that when I installed metafont
the README said that the modes.mf files would be put into the  MFINPUTS
directroy during step 5. This didn't happen and I put it in manually
with the correct localmodes line set.
