How do I convert .pfb/.pfm files to .tfm files?

I know how to convert .afm files to .tfm files (via afm2tfm), but the postscript fonts I have do not come with .afm files, only .pfb files with occasional .pfm metrics. I would like a general case solution, i.e. how to get from a .pfb to a .tfm, but converting the .pfm files would be a good start. -- Carson Gaspar carson@cs.columbia.edu

You might be able to use a comination of pfbtogs and pstopk which come with Ghostscript, but I'm not sure if pstopk generates a tfm as well as a pk font file. David <Dalton@Geop.UBC.CA>

Actually, it is the other way around, you'd want to start with the PFM files, since PFM files contain information not found in PFB files, such as kerning information. Use PFMtoAFM. Also chide the source of your fonts. T1 fonts should ALWAYS come with AFM files, since this is the only complete repository of metric information (PFM and TFM files for example have no information on unencoded characters or on encoding).
