GhostScript: How do you send printer output to stdout?

Hi, I'm sorry if this is the wrong newsgroup to post to, but here is
my problem. I have GhostScript v2.3 compiled on an SGI Personal Iris
to which I want to attach an HP LaserJet IIP. I was hoping that I
could use GhostScript with the laserjet device driver so that it could
take postscript from standard input and output PCL4 printer code to
standard output. When I give the command:
        "cat golfer.ps | gs -sDEVICE=ljet2p -q -dNOPAUSE - "
The program tells me that it has left a file in /usr/tmp.
How can I configure GhostScript so that it sends output to stdout
instead of a scratch file in /usr/tmp ?
Any info would be appreciated?

Use Ghostscript 2.5. This can send output to a specified pipe.
In Ghostscript 2.3 this is NOT possible.

I use lpr and GhostScript to rasterize for a HPLJ III thusly. (I found
that the ljet3 device in v2.5.1 is flaky, so I use the ljet2p device.)

(/etc/printcap)
ps:\
        :lp=/dev/plp:sh:\
 	:if=/usr/spool/lpd/bin/ps.filter:\
        :af=/usr/adm/lpd-acct:lf=/usr/spool/lpd/plp/log:\
        :sd=/usr/spool/lpd/plp:

(/usr/spool/lpd/bin/ps.filter)
#!/bin/sh
# postscript interpreter filter
# Christopher J. Miller 920904
echo plp gs `date` >> /usr/spool/lpd/plp/log

#/usr/appl/bin/gs -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=ljet3 -sOutputFile=/tmp/$$.gs - > /dev/null
/usr/appl/bin/gs -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=ljet2p -sOutputFile=/tmp/$$.gs - > /dev/null

cat /tmp/$$.gs
echo "eE" | tr "e" "\033"
/bin/rm /tmp/$$.gs
