I have a normal bitmap in postscript which prints just fine. I
want to be able to irregularly scale it and print the results, so that
the resultant image will be "squashed" or "thin." How do I manage
this -- is it easily possible?

Quite easy; this is one of the things PostScript does best. It will look something like this: [ ... ] % PostScript header, presumably gsave % save the graphic state 0.5 1.0 scale % set up to "squash" the bitmap %%BeginDocument [ ... ] % your bitmap goes here %%EndDocument grestore % put things back as we found them [ ... ] % PostScript trailer, presumably But you need to read the Adobe PostScript Language Reference to become proficient at this; I probably forgot some details. I hope this encourages you. gil
