Help, please. I would like to define a command that includes an image
operator, but keep getting a stackoverflow. The image data is approx 50k
and my printer has 2 meg in it (HP Lasterjet II with the Adobe PostScript
cartridge). This is what I would like to do:
/mypic {
/dopic {
gsave width height 1
[width 0 0 height neg 0 height]
{currentfile picstr readhexstring pop}
image grestore } def
0 0 translate pixwidth pixheight scale
dopic
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
...... picture data deleted
} def
then in several places in he document do a
x y moveto mypic
Any hints/help/``this is impossible'' would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You can't do it this way. "readhexstring" reads from the file, not
from the procedure body.
