I want to translate postscript files for printing two on one page.
psf only works for non-postscript input. mp places headers and footers,
but doesn't rotate and reduce. Is there any tool to manage this?
What I want is:
Input:
+--------------+ +--------------+
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| postscript | | postscript |
| page 1 | | page 2 |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
+--------------+ +--------------+
Output:
+---------------------+
| | |
| | |
| | |
| ps | ps |
| page 1 | page 2 |
| | |
| | |
| | |
+---------------------+

Is there any tool to manage this? I know enough about Postscript to suspect this could be done with a prefix file, and possibly a one-pass script to rewrite the showpage if there's no way to redefine it. I don't know enough to write such a thing. If someone has these things, I too would like a copy. -- (This man's opinions are his own.) There are several utilities I know of do this. There are two of them that
I use.
One is 'mpage', a 'c' program that does 1, 2, 4, and 8up printing with
a number of options. It handles text and postscript and is available from
your favorite comp.sources.misc archive.
The second is a perl script called 'up'. I've done a major hack on it to
correct some logic errors. Its major strong point, is its programability..
With a little understanding of the code, you can write your own option. I
currently have it supporting 1up, 2up, 4up, 4up - landscape, greeting card,
6up, 8up, 9up, 10up, 12up, 16up, spiral and reverse spiral. Its weekness
is not understanding text. It is a postscript only 'n-up' program, and that
it requires Perl running on your machine.

Printing twoside (FAQ?)

I have ps format documents I want to print twosided on a DEC Printserver 20. The printer is configured to do 1 side printing when printer name is ps and twoside when jobs are submitted to ps-2s. The result is the same - one page per sheet. I need a filter but where can I find it. I have mpage, which I think I'll use too, but it doesn't seem to solve my problem. Thanks, -- /* Juha.Inkari@hut.fi */
