This inventions about EPS is that turned PostScript machine dependent (or worse, program dependent), and also the new commands. There should be a standard in EPS also. Certainly the stuff you write about is about computers, but to say that CS is in bad shape just because there are some people that don't care about portability is quite too much. In adittion if you don't like CS that much you can always quit the area, leaving place to really interested people. I would recomend you to change to Unix since VAX/VMS is perhaps turning you a little bit closed-minded. So be carefull not to offend people without any good reason...

Perhaps you should read the thread through again from the beginning. It had absolutely *NOTHING* to do with portability. Some idiot posted to the group saying "I've got a PostScript file that's too big for my printer." Now, it later developed that the printer had absolutely nothing to do with it. In point of fact, the local machine was complaining that the file exceeded limits on file size for its spool directory. Now, if someone in a CS program is incapable of tracking down a problem like that at least to the point of figuring out which machine is complaining, CS is in sad shape. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Carl J Lydick | INTERnet: CARL@SOL1.GPS.CALTECH.EDU | NSI/HEPnet: SOL1::CARL Disclaimer: Hey, I understand VAXen and VMS. That's what I get paid for. My understanding of astronomy is purely at the amateur level (or below). So unless what I'm saying is directly related to VAX/VMS, don't hold me or my organization responsible for it. If it IS related to VAX/VMS, you can try to hold me responsible for it, but my organization had nothing to do with it.
