Does anybody have a post script to HP series II unix based convertor? One would be much appreciated, either via email or if you happen to know where I can ftp it. Thanx. -- Ron Ron Winograd <Insert huge 20 line sig here> ron@vpnet.chi.il.us

I would be interested in such an animal, too. I have some users who prefer PCs at the Unix site I administer; being able to let them print to PCL "printers" which are actually just filters sitting in front of the Apple LaserWriter II/ntx's that we already have on the net would be a big boon for them. I tried looking at Poskanzer's pbmplus package, but that only allowed translating from a portable bitmap (pbm) to PCL. In case there is no such thing as a PCL -> Postscript filter or translator, is there an electronic copy of the latest PCL spec, or does someone have suggestions for a good book on PCL? Since pbmplus has its API so well documented, it wouldn't be hard to hack up a really gross but workable translator (I would just have the translator image and spit around giant bitmaps). -- ____ tyen@cs.utexas.edu.....Kowabunga!... /ony -- Claimer: Views expressed here == mine && only mine. Silicon Graphics sells just such a beast for use on any SGI box running IRIX 4.0.1 or later. It's called Impressario, it's $800 for the printer server, and it screams. Impressario converts text, SGI image, and PostScript (and a number of other formats) to print on HP Series II and III (PCL4 and above) printers. It includes format conversions, and even does line-by-line adaptive compression to ensure the fastest transmission times. For more information, contact SGI Express at 800-800-SGI1 (7441).
