I have two basic questions. 1) How do you set the tumble mode for a printer with duplexing capability? 2) Where is the best place in a PS file to put things like the duplex mode and the tumble mode? Thanks for your help. -- Terry Hull - terry@eece.ksu.edu Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Kansas State University

On a Level 1 machine, this is normally done using settumble (false = flip across long edge, true = flip across short edge). I believe there was also at least one printer that did it by using ints for values to setduplex, but I am not positive. For Level 2, you need to set the /Tumble key to true in a call to setpagedevice, although for compatibility, duplex printers would probably have the settumble operator available. > 2) Where is the best place in a PS file to put things like the duplex mode > and the tumble mode? Presuming you want the whole file in a single mode, do it as part of the setup, before you fiddle with graphics state or put any marks on a page. This is definitely required in level 2, where the call to setpagedevice will initialize your state. The big caution here is that on some Level 1 machines, duplex and tumble obey save/restore, while on others they do not! This means you cannot rely on restore setting you back to simplex within your job. On Level 2 machines, setpagedevice strictly obeys save/restore.
