C libraries for PostScript, or what?

Netfolks,

I am looking for a C function library to help me be more
productive in producing 'spiffy' reports on a PostScript
printer. The reports will be a combination of 2-D and 3-D
bar charts (in color) with accompanying paragraphs of text.

The C programs I will be replacing use custom C code to
generate PostScript output. Too many nit-picking format
details are sprinkled throughout the C code. (Example:
determining how big a paragraph of text is so an appropriate
size box can be placed around it.)

Historically, creating one of these custom C programs took a
considerable amount of time. Any ideas on how this process
can be speeded up?

I have heard about a C library called c_pslib, available from
The Austin Works. Any comments on this package? Any others
out there like it? Any comments of any kind?
