paragraph wrappin before printing

I'm in the need to wordwrap paragraphs etc into a specified width, and
I need to do this before sending to the printer.

Thus I could need some good algoritms for calculating string-lengths
(preferably including kerning), wrapping paragraphs (no hyphenation
needed) etc based on information in AFM-files (which I already have a
parser for). References to books/papers/source are welcome too.

There used to be a document in the Adobe file-server called
"textcalc.ps" that supposedly covered some of these topics, but it's
not there anymore. Does anubody know the whereabouts of it?

Replies by mail preferred, I'll post a summary on demand.
