I suggest you purchase the book 'Postscript language Tutorial and
Cookbook' from Adobe Systems Inc. It is published by Addison Wesley

There is also a reference manual available, but you need the first book
to learn. It's got plenty of examples.

I just started reading this newsgroup, so I don't know if the following
has already been pointed out.

"PostScript by Example" seemed to be a nice book that I saw in
the bookstore. But it seems like if you wanted to learn in depth
programming, it would not be as useful as the red book/blue book
combination.

There was another book, I can't remember the exact name but it
was called Visual PostScript or something. Quite good.
