HELP: dictfull error

Here is the scenario. We have drawing package that generates
HPGL. We used a filter provided by Frame to generate an EPSI
file from the HPGL file generated by the drawing package (the
filter is called hpgltoepsi). We then included that EPSI file
into a FrameMaker document.

When we print out the file with FrameMaker on a Sun to a
LaserWriter Plus, it prints the document. If we print out the
file with FrameMaker on a Mac to a LaserWriter II, it generates
the error:

	ERROR: dictfull
	OFFENDING COMMAND: def

	STACK:

	{}
	/path_right

Frame Technologies, Adobe and some PostScript experts couldn't
explain why this happened. One provided a workaround. I need
to know why this happens and a possible solution, since a large
amount of documents will be generated this way and printed from
a Mac. If anyone has any ideas please help!

This dictfull error probably means FrameMaker on the Mac is not
storing things into its own dictionary, but is using whatever is on
the top of the dict stack, which could be userdict or md. In either
case there is a limit to how many keys are available. This limit
might not be reached on the Sun because there is no md (it is Apple-
specific) or because the Sun driver does not use as many keys in
userdict.

Another possibility is that FrameMaker is allocating its own
dict, but is not leaving enough entries for the keys required by
your HPGL/EPSF file. There are other possibilities, too, but I
would need a lot more context to determine the problem. Can you
provide more info?
