I have located the apparent cause of the "bad" EPS files. When selecting the NEC Silentwriter printer for postscript output, there is a "Conform to Adobe Document Structuring Conventions" check box in the Advanced Options dialog box. The help for that option states "This option is also useful if you want to share the file with others or if you want to use a printing service to print the file". I don't know how that can be interpreted any way other than as being the appropriate option if you are going to COPY a file to a postscript printer. However, it is that option that causes the extra blank page and page of error messages described in the main article of this thread. This seems inconsistent to me, but I know little about postscript. The help also states "Note: You do not need to select this option if you are creating EPS files". That sentence means that the option could be selected, but need not be selected. Apparently, the results are quite different if you select it. I guess the question is why would anyone not want to conform to the Adobe specs when creating a file for COPYing to a printer? Does anybody know where Microsoft documents this option accurately?
