Re the lack of "major commercial applications" in Prolog, recall that most of the programming that goes on is _not_ the development of "major commercial applications" (databases, compilers, editors, etc.), but rather the development of small custom programs to meet a user's immediate need. (After all, why do people _buy_ compilers? Just to write other compilers with them???) And Prolog is very good for some types of small custom programs, and even large ones. Let's admit it, Prolog is a special-purpose language. But it's a useful one. I don't buy the currently popular idea that all the programs in the world need to be written in one language (C++; five years ago it was C; long ago it was Fortran). -- ================================================================== Michael A.
