Lloyds Bowmaker, a merchant banking/insurance arm of Lloyds Bank, in Bristol, use Prolog instead of COBOL for database programming. They go from the specifications directly into Prolog, and find it easy to modify when business rules change. I know of another 2 financial institutions who have programming groups which use Prolog. More will follow when they realise the productivity gains. Dave Newman, Aston University, d.newman@aston.ac.uk
