A friend asked if REXX could read and write Excel files (presumably on W2000 and WNT). Has anyone done this? Frank Clarke Tampa Area REXX Programmers' Alliance REXX Language Assn Join us at www.rexxla.org

Has anyone done this? Not that I know of. If you have excel, you can use OLE to load the file and read data from the program itself. If you have an ODBC driver that understands Excel, you could use rexx/sql to access an excel file. -- Patrick TJ McPhee East York Canada ptjm@interlog.com

You should be able to do this (read anyway) with RexxSQL from Mark Hessling. You can read/write with VBSCRIPT which could be called from rexx. Matter of fact - any of the MS Office products. This has been the basis of several presentations I have done at the last 2 RexxLA Symposiums and SHARE in Nashville. Not only are the MS Office Products automatiable (not sure that's a word), but any application that acts as an OLE/ActiveX server can be automated with OLE. Just let me know if you'd like to know how. Lee Peedin VP RexxLA
