Execution penalty for "ISPEXEC ...command.. " ?

I asked on <bit.listserv.ispf-l> before realizing it was the wrong
venue for the question:

Is there an execution penalty for any of these forms:

 (a) "ISPEXEC ..some command.."
 (b) address ISPEXEC "..some command.."
 (c) address ISPEXEC
     "..some command.."

Is the answer different in other addressors ?

Hi

Some Years ago I programmed a lot ISPF in CLIST. I used a CLIST system
variable that gave the system resource manager units back.
I asume that the same variable is available under REXX as well. Find it
and do some test shot taking the figure before and after executing the
command. I will think that there is minor differences and therefore is
is not important.

I would expect this to be the most expensive. It requires dispatching a TASK
to run ISPEXEC which will then perform the command.

:> (b) address ISPEXEC "..some command.."
:> (c) address ISPEXEC
:> "..some command.."

I would expect these to be virtually identical. I think REXX initializes an
environment only once, even if called many times. If you are doing multiple
ISPF commands (c) is more readable.

As to the ADDRESS command, REXX does not do any initialization. The
address command simply tell rexx where to route the commands to. One may
use the "CurAddr = Address()" to determine if the current address space
is the ine you want, or to save off and restore the address. i.e.

My_Procesure:
  x = Address()
  Address 'ISPEXEC'
  some code
  some more code
  even further code
  Address x
Return
The actual Address command only updates the internal variable REXX keeps
to route system commands, and has virtually no overhead
