Final Call for Papers
OzCHI '96
The Sixth Australian Conference on Computer-Human Interaction
24-27 November 1996
Hamilton, New Zealand
OzCHI is coming to Aotearoa/New Zealand! We invite you to the 6th Austral=
ian
Conference on Computer-Human Interaction (OzCHI=9296), to be held in Hami=
lton,
New Zealand during 24-27 November 1996. This marks the first time that th=
e
conference will be held outside of Australia (Oz). The purpose of this
conference is to promote discussion and interaction among members of the =
HCI
community.
It is also the special goal of this conference not only to strengthen lin=
ks
between Australia and New Zealand, but to broaden the interaction to incl=
ude
participants from other areas of the world. The conference features keyn=
ote
speakers from North America and Europe. The conference schedule (Sunday =
-
Wednesday) allows participants from the USA to return in time for the
Thanksgiving holidays, or to remain on holiday in beautiful New Zealand i=
f
they so wish. The weather in late November, late in our spring, should b=
e
generally warm and fine. Because of our position just west of the
international dateline, it is possible to fly from Auckland Wednesday
evening and arrive in Los Angeles around midday on Wednesday, for connect=
ing
flights to the rest of the USA or elsewhere around the world.
Venue
The city of Hamilton (featured on our cover) is located in the North Isl=
and
of New Zealand, approximately 100 km south of Auckland, New Zealand=92s
largest city with just over one million people. Hamilton is New Zealand'=
s
largest inland city, with a population of approximately 103,000 and is
situated along the banks of the Waikato River, New Zealand=92s longest. =
The
conference is to be held at the Pavilion (below) at Hamilton Gardens. Th=
e
formal and informal gardens cover an area of 58 hectares along the Waikat=
o
River, providing a peaceful and beautiful location only a short distance
from the centre of Hamilton.
Hamilton is conveniently located, within easy reach of both east and west
coast beaches, Auckland, the Rotorua geo-thermal district, Lake Taupo, th=
e
central mountain and volcanic areas, the Coromandel peninsula, and the
Waitomo cave district. Hamilton is only 80 minutes drive south from
Auckland's International Airport, which has regular flights from the USA,
Asia, Europe, and Australia. Connecting flights from Auckland and other =
New
Zealand locations into Hamilton airport are also available, as well as ne=
w,
direct (and low cost!) flights from Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
