What is EUROCHIP ?
-------------------
EUROCHIP is a service organisation offering CAD tools and MPW prototype
fabrication to all universities and polytechnics in Europe.
Today about 400 universities are member of EUROCHIP and are using the
CAD tools and MPW prototype services.
CAD tools offered to the universities at highly reduced cost for educational
use are : Cadence, Mentor Graphics, Synopsys, Genrad, H-Spice (Meta-Soft),
Xilinx, Altera. All run on workstations. Today EUROCHIP is also offering
CAD tools on PC (under Windows). Only EUROPEAN universities can buy these
CAD tools.
EUROCHIP offers also Multi Project Chip Prototype fabrication in many
technologies and many submission dates. This MPW service started in
1989 on a European scale for the universities, it is ALSO OPEN TO
INDUSTRY.
The European universities can benefit for educational designs from
special prices. For industrial designs, the INDUSTRIAL price is
applicable.
Also some small volume fabrication can be offered through MPW or
directly with contacts to the foundries.
Hereby the pricelist and schedule of the MPC runs.

Title : SCHEDULE OF EUROCHIP MPC RUNS Author : C. DAS EUROCHIP
=========================================================================
EUROCHIP is announcing its MPW schedule until the end of September 1995. The
EUROCHIP contract with the EU is extended until 30 September 1995. Discussions
are ongoing with the EU to ensure a smooth transition from the current EUROCHIP
services into the new project, called EURO-PRACTICE.
EUROCHIP is happy to announce that already more than 2200 IC designs have been
submitted to the EUROCHIP MPW runs for fabrication. About 2120 IC designs have
been submitted by academia as educational designs, 60 designs have been
submitted by industry and the remaining 20 designs have been submitted for small
volume fabrication.
General information
===================
Universities and companies must send in their designs to the Service Centers
before the closing date of MPW run.
The area in mm2 is the area of the rectangle around the circuit as it will be
fabricated.
EUROCHIP reserves the right to postpone the fabrication to the next run, if not
enough designs have been submitted.
Central & Eastern Countries
===========================
For educational designs from universities in C&E countries, free MPW fabrication
is offered through the EUROEAST project. Contact EUROCHIP for details.
ES2 1.0 m for COMPASS designs
==============================
Circuits designed with COMPASS software using the COMPASS or ES2 design kits are
fabricated by ES2 on a 1.0ʵm CMOS technology that is different from the
standard ECPD10 technology offered by EUROCHIP for MPW fabrication.
Due to several requests EUROCHIP received from COMPASS users, EUROCHIP installed
an ES2 1.0 m CMOS MPW service specially for COMPASS designs.
Austria, Finland, Norway, Sweden
================================
Universities, being EUROCHIP member, from Austria, Finland, Norway, Sweden can
benefit from the EU-subsidised prices for MPW fabrication of educational and
research designs since 1October 1994.
AMS MPW runs
============
EUROCHIP started offering AMS prototyping by submitting the designs on the AMS
scheduled MPW runs. Since the number of designs submitted in AMS technologies
has been growing, EUROCHIP has now started to submit its own MPW runs to AMS.
========================================================================
This year more than 60 MPW runs scheduled !
========================================================================
Commercial use
The EUROCHIP MPW service is open for industrial design from universities,
companies or design houses. There are no restrictions for the
technologies. For small or high volumes afterwards, contact your EUROCHIP
Service Center.
Small volume
EUROCHIP can provide you with quotations for small quantities. Small
quantities will be fabricated on MPW runs or directly at the foundry.
In some cases EUROCHIP can offer you tested parts (ex. ES2) and in other
cases EUROCHIP can deliver you the silicon and provide you with addresses
for testing and packaging (for ceramic and plastic).

Note
====
The ES2 1.5 m CMOS technology will be terminated and the last MPW run is
scheduled on 15May 1995.
The AMS MPW runs are either full EUROCHIP MPW runs or based on individual design
submissions and scheduled together with AMS.
Turnaround times are typical and are based upon the EUROCHIP 4 years experience.
They include design checking at the Service Centres, data preparation,
processing, packaging and delivery.
The cost for prototyping of a design on MPW runs is the price/mm2 times the area
of the design (area of a rectangle around the designed circuit as it is
fabricated, taking into account the shrink factor of 0.64 for MIETEC 2m CMOS).
The number of prototypes that are delivered depends on the area of
the designed circuit :
10 prototypes for area < 25 mm2
20 prototypes for area between 25 and 50 mm2
30 prototypes for area > 50 mm2
For AMS and FhG/IAF designs, the number of prototypes is 10.
The delivered prototypes are untested, packaged or unpackaged.
For runs at SGS-THOMSON, 2 deadlines are given for standard cell
designs and full custom designs. Standard cell designs have to be
submitted 3 weeks on beforehand to allow EUROCHIP to do the place
and route using Tancell software. SC = Standard Cell designs FC =
Full Custom designs
