Announcement and Advance Program
**SIS'93**
1993 University of Washington
Symposium on Integrated Systems
March 15-16, 1993
University of Washington
Seattle, Washington
SYMPOSIUM ON INTEGRATED SYSTEMS
The Symposium on Integrated Systems is a descendent of the Conferences
on Advanced Research in VLSI initiated by Caltech and MIT. It is the
15th in a series that has been held at Caltech, MIT, UNC Chapel Hill,
Stanford, UC Santa Cruz, and Brown. Like those conferences, it will
continue the tradition of providing a forum for the highest quality
papers on topics relating to VLSI systems. Unlike those conferences,
it has a new title and a new emphasis, namely systems integration
issues in microelectronic systems "from the chips up." Recent
advances in microelectronic technologies have enabled new
architectures and applications requiring highly integrated or
large-scale systems. Given this goal, the conference will include a
wide range of interrelated disciplines, including: basic technology,
circuits and devices, VLSI architectures, design automation, and
applications.

GENERAL INFORMATION
**Hotel Information**
We will be using the Stouffer Madison Hotel for all conference events.
Situated in the center of downtown Seattle, the hotel is close to the
financial, business, legal, medical, major retail, and entertainment
districts. The locations for the reception, banquet, and meeting
rooms will be posted in the Stouffer lobby on the reader board.
Please contact the Stouffer Madison directly to make your
reservations; be sure to identify yourself with the "UW -- SIS'93"
conference to receive noted rates. These rates will apply for the
period March 13 - 16, 1993. Reservations must be made by February 15,
1993. Reservations received after the contracted block of rooms is
full or after the cut-off date of February 15 are subject to space
availability.

**Transportation**
There are several options to get from SeaTac airport. The Airport
Shuttle (Grayline) runs every 20 minutes between the hotel and the
airport; the fare is $7.00 per person each way. [Travel time is about
20 minutes.] This shuttle can be boarded outside of the baggage claim
area. Another option is ShuttleExpress, which will drop you off

A third option is a taxi, which should cost approximately $25.00-$30.00.
**Information about Seattle**
Points of interest within Seattle include the Pike Place Market,
Pioneer Square, Seattle Center, the Woodland Park Zoo, and the
waterfront area which includes the Seattle Aquarium. These areas can
be reached by public transportation from the hotel. Within a two to
three hour driving distance from Seattle are three national parks:
Olympics National Park, North Cascades National Park, and Mount
Rainier National Park.
**Climate**
Daytime temperatures in mid-March are expected to be in the mid-40s,
and nighttime temperatures in the low 30s. Rain is likely. An
umbrella is suggested, as well as a thicker outer jacket.
