Can anyone out there give me a bit of input on how (or whether) you
can change the set of options available via the "o" command?
I can change the assorted options listed in the elmrc file by editing
that file, but since one of the options in elmrc is itself the list of
options available via "o", it seems as if this can be changed. The
ones listed as changeable by "o" in elmrc at present are all
identified in the "o" menu by their first letters. Clearly, this
won't work for a lot of the others, not currently in the menu.
Or am I asking for something that cannot be done?
Many thanks in advance... please reply by e-mail to save everyone from
having to read the answers to what is probably a pretty elementary
question!
Regards,

Indeed, the values of all variables in the option menu can be changed. The changes won't be permanent until you save your changes with '>'. The option menu however lists only a subset of all options (read: variables). A lot more options can be configured by editing the configuration file ($HOME/.elm/elmrc), usually called the "ELMRC" (where the "rc" at the end stands for "read commands"). Variables and their values in the ELMRC are listed like this: |-> # A comment explaing what the variable is used for. variablename = value <-| Common values are "ON", "OFF", pathnames or filenames. Please note that the ELMRC is sorted alphabetically by variable names. Have a look at it once and see what else ELM offers for confuguration. Caveat: If you don't know what a variable affects - don't change it! (Well, at least make a backup first. :) -- Sven@manuals.explained.edu | Remember: The ELM FAQ is in news.answers !
